Generally speaking, yes. Should this not be the case, we will advise you as to when you can take up the position when making a concrete offer.


Are the vacancies really up-to-date?

Absolutely. Every vacancy listed on our website is still open, and you are invited to apply.


Does BILSTEIN prefer applications by post or online?

We welcome applications both by post and online. Whichever option you choose though, please ensure all the necessary documents are included.

What competencies do you look for in particular at the BILSTEIN GROUP?

We seek out employees with both a technical and commercial background. In terms of our targeted expansion, we also look for specialists with sales and business expertise who are willing and happy to travel regularly. The increasingly international nature of the

BILSTEIN GROUP means we value candidates who are open to other cultures, and either speak a foreign language already or are keen to learn one.



When is the right time to apply?

It is best to apply after you have received your summer report, the year before you wish to start your training – so in summer 2012 if you wish to join us in 2013. You can also apply closer to your preferred start date if you so desire. We advise giving our HR team a quick call to clear up any doubts.


How can I get to know the BILSTEIN GROUP a little better beforehand?

There are various options available to anyone who would like to know more about what we do. We offer work experience placements in practically every area of our business – simply send a speculative application to the department that interests you. Pupils at local schools may also meet us at their institution, and we attend a wide variety of job fairs and exhibitions.


How do I know which apprenticeship is right for me?

First, you must have an understanding of both your strengths and weaknesses. This is important to knowing what type of career you would be best suited to. You might find it helpful here to speak to teachers, parents and friends. A work experience placement is also a great way of finding out exactly what the position involves on a day-to-day basis and whether you enjoy it. If you take up a placement, make sure you chat to more experienced members of the team too, to form a full, accurate picture of every aspect of the role.


What expectations does the BILSTEIN GROUP have of future apprentices?

It is important that you are an open-minded individual, take enjoyment in your work, and work well as part of a team. In addition, you should be highly motivated by the idea of constantly being able to build on your expertise. The qualifications and grades necessary depend on the position in question – for further information here, see the “Training” section.


What should I expect of my time as a apprentice?

To give you a full insight into your chosen field, you will spend time in as many different departments as possible, attend seminars on subjects such as business etiquette and take part in a wide range of external activities, like visiting a steelworks. This ensures plenty of variety, while giving you a good overview of the company. As part of the apprenticeship, you will also attend classes either every week or concentrated in blocks, depending on your position. How long do apprenticeships take?

Depending on the position, apprenticeships last between two and three-and-a-half years. In certain situations though, it may be possible to shorten them to two years.


What can I expect after completing the apprenticeship?

You can look forward to a fixed-term contract and continuing your career path within the BILSTEIN GROUP. In addition, you can combine your work with study, to obtain a BA or BSc qualification, as well as taking numerous specialist courses.


Which courses are relevant to the BILSTEIN GROUP?

Our commercial departments are particularly interested in economics, business studies, international management, law, commercial law, and psychology graduates. On the technical side of the business, we look for graduates in IT, mechanical engineering, material engineering, material sciences, material technology, electrical engineering and industrial engineering.


When can I apply for an internship or thesis placement?

To allow you to properly integrate into the way we do things, we require a little planning time. We therefore advise you to apply three to six months before your preferred start date. Should one of our teams require someone urgently however, a shorter-term approach may also be successful. Before sending us your application, please give us a quick phone call to discuss the situation.


How do I apply for a thesis placement?

You are welcome to approach us with a specific topic or area for your thesis. Alternatively, you can ask us for ideas, as our various departments can often help out. A quick chat is often enough to identify a topic you can relate to. It is advised that you make the necessary arrangements with your university in advance.

Are your internships and thesis placements paid?

Yes, you will be remunerated for your work at the BILSTEIN GROUP. The exact sum depends on the area of the business and the length of your internship/thesis placement.


Which BILSTEIN GROUP companies offer internships and thesis placements?

Generally, we offer internships in every business and practically every field of the BILSTEIN GROUP, at our Hagen-Hohenlimburg site in Germany. The same applies for thesis placements. If you would like to take up an internship outside of Germany, please apply to the site directly.


How much time should I allow for an internship at BILSTEIN?

Three to six months are standard – this is sufficient time to gain valuable experience and an insight into our business. Shorter or longer periods are possible though, if it makes sense for both parties.


Which subjects are the most relevant for the BILSTEIN GROUP with regards to thesis placements?

We don’t really have any preference, and generally speaking, all of our departments take on thesis placement students.
